Obituary of Bert Ballin

Bert Ballin , 93, of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2016. He was born December 26, 1922 in New York City to Louis Ballin and Mary Sperling Ballin. Bert graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelors Degree in 1943. After two years in the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program, he attended Columbia University College of Dental Medicine where he received his D.D.S. in 1948. During World War II, he served as a Senior Assistant Dental Surgeon in the U.S. Public Health Services. Bert moved to Stamford in 1954 where he enjoyed a long and productive career as an orthodontist. After retirement from his practice in 1991, he enjoyed a second career as a real estate professional. He also made his mark as a giving community leader, including service for the New Canaan Country Day School, the Horizons Summer Program, New Neighborhoods, Senior Services of Stamford, the Dental Division of the United Way and the Stamford Health Commission. In his spare time, Bert was active in the Democratic party and a talented tennis player. Bert was also a world traveler, a passion that he shared with his growing family of children and grandchildren over the years. Bert is survived by his wife Alice, his four children Jim and spouse Sophie, Amy and spouse Tim, Debbie and spouse Jon, and Dan and spouse Mia, and six grandchildren Noah, Michael, Ella, Jacob, Aaron and Casey.
