My memories of Dr. Ballin begin when I was a patient of his in my early teens. He was kind, gentle and very nurturing, unlike my regular dentist who was just the opposite. Maybe that's because Dr. Ballin only had to straighten my teeth, not drill out the cavities of which there were many. But that was a long time ago (I'm now 70!). I'm pleased to report that my choppers are still in good shape...and I credit Dr. Ballin for that. Fast forward as an adult, I would occasionally cross paths with Bert, sharing thoughts about Stamford and our respective civic involvement. As the years went by, his soft spokenness never diminished and his manner always engaged. I was saddened to read of Bert's passing in the Advocate. For me he was the consummate dental professional and a community activist who really cared. He will be missed.
