Obituary of Edwin F. Backman

Edwin Backman, a long time resident of Ridgefield, died from a head injury on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. He was 86 years old. Edwin was born to Esther Backman in Nystad, Finland, November 30, 1927. Edwin served as a darkroom technician in the Air Force, from 1949 to 1952. He began his career as an arborist in the mid 1950's working for J.W. Kapouch of Darien. He struck out on his own in the early 70's, and continued working right up to the year of his death. At the time of his death, Edwin was the oldest working member of the CT Tree Protective Association. He enjoyed reading, classical music, fine dining, travel, and spending quality time with friends. Edwin was predeceased by his wife, Anna Cornelia DuPlessis Backman, and brother Herb Backman. He is survived by his son Brian Backman, Brian's wife Susan, their daughters Kathryn and Amanda, of Ridgefield CT, brother Roy Backman of Florida, sister Shirley Backman of Texas, and nephew Larry Backman and Larry's daughter Tara of NY.
