Alma Isaacs

Obituary of Alma Ann Isaacs

Alma Ann Isaacs, daughter of Michael and Anna (Donick) Pado, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020, at the age of 91, in Norwalk CT.  She was born in Sheffield, PA  and spent her childhood in Donora, PA with her five older brothers.  As a young woman, Alma worked as the bookkeeper in a local drugstore where she was introduced  to her future husband Charles “Tom” Isaacs. They eloped in 1948. Shortly after, they moved to Washington, DC where she was a secretary at the Pentagon while her husband attended medical school. They moved to Harrisburg and opened a medical practice in 1953. Alma oversaw his office and also assisted in the delivery of a baby in 1958.

First and foremost, Alma was a dedicated and loving mother to her three children Charles Isaacs Jr.(Carol Nigro), Nancy Sterling (Tom), and Marta Paxson (Doug). She always put her family first. She cherished her children and she especially loved her role as Grandma.  She treasured each moment she spent with her grandchildren, teaching them to bake, reading to them, and providing them with her keen sense of style. She was cherished by all and will be sorely missed.   Alma is survived by her husband of 71 years and her three children as well as her grandchildren Sarah Haider, Katherine Gawryluk, Elizabeth Garrabrant, Carolyn Collins, Douglas Paxson, Jr., Thomas Sterling, Jr.,  and a growing crew of great-grandchildren. Her brothers predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Alma’s honor to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church 5 Oenoke Ridge,  New Canaan, CT 06840.  To extend a personal remembrance or note, please go to www.nutmegcremation.com
