Obituary of Scott Alexander Horelick

Happy Wanderer and Gentle Giant

Scott Alexander Horelick passed away October 28, 2019 surrounded by family and friends at Norwalk Hospital after a valiant battle with multiple medical conditions. Scott was born September 3, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Eleanor Woods Horelick and Stanley Horelick.  Scott grew up in Harbor View, Norwalk, CT where his love of sailing and water sports was born. 

Scott was predeceased by his Mother and Father and his brother, Richard Horelick.  He is survived by his sister, Eleanor (Elaine) Horelick, who was his best friend, support and caregiver, his sister-in-law Marie Horelick, his nephew, Alex, Alex’s wife, Christine and their daughter Amber Horelick as well as his niece, April and her son, Connor Horelick.  In addition, he is survived by many cousins and friends and his beloved cat, Stinki.  

Upon graduation from Brien McMahon High School, Scott enlisted in the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Saratoga.  Scott enjoyed traveling and was nicknamed the "Happy Wanderer."  After his military service, Scott took a variety of positions which enabled him to travel and explore different parts of the country. He worked as a model and a bust of him was on display in the MMOA in NYC. He also worked on oil rigs and utilized his CDL license. 

Scott greeted each new adventure with a smile and a warm sense of humor.  He loved meeting new people. There were no strangers in Scott's life, only new friends waiting to be discovered. No matter where his travels took him, Scott was never without his chess board and guitar. He believed that music brought people together and would gladly jam at a moment's notice. In addition to being a musician, Scott was a singer, songwriter and poet.    

Scott persevered through many difficult times in his life and triumphed over seemingly impossible odds. Through it all, he never lost his love of life and laughter. He instinctively knew how to make lemonade out of lemons. Few people embrace life with as much enthusiasm and joy as Scott, our gentle joy filled Giant.

His Sister would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors, nurses and staff on 6 East at Norwalk Hospital (NuVance), The Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County (his nurse, Gina, and the physical and occupational therapists), the aides from Rescare and Dr Dana Brock, Katie and staff from the VA Hospital in West Haven. She would also like to acknowledge the love and support exhibited by their friends, Richie, John, Liz, Ellen and Virginia as well as numerous other friends and family members.  The support and love so generously offered meant and continues to mean the world.
