Obituary of Arthur Kenneth Lesowitz

Arthur Kenneth Lesowitz, age 86, of Stamford CT passed away peacefully in the company of loving family on August 7, 2018. Art was born on April 6th, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY.  He was the son of the late Michael and Helen Lesowitz. He attended Tilden High School, Brooklyn College, and Adelphi University, where he earned his masters degree and then enjoyed a career as an educator teaching advanced placement mathematics at Elmont High School, in Elmont NY.  Art served in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1956 as an aviator during the Korean War, where he rose to the rank of Captain. As a member of the USAF reserve, he later briefly served during the Vietnam War in an intelligence role in Tokyo, Japan where he also taught mathematics at the American School in Japan.  Art met his beautiful and loving wife Tomoko in Tokyo, Japan during his Korean War service and was married nearly 50 years before her passing in 2006.

Art lived a happy retirement in Walnut Creek, CA and Boynton Beach, FL. He took much joy with Tomoko in playing paddleball, and later on, tennis and lawn bowling (where they both excelled on the state and national level). They also enjoyed traveling the world on cruise ships. He was very passionate about his NY Times crossword puzzles and the TV show Jeopardy. He was known to constantly impress people with his broad trivia knowledge. He had a very witty and wry sense of humor, which was endearing to many who knew him. He enjoyed playing the piano, and listening to classical music and the Beatles. He had great fondness for his family, particularly his grandchildren whom he was fortunate enough to spend much time with during his days in California and Florida.

Art is survived by his loving children Nina Lesowitz and Martin Eggenberger of Alameda, CA, Jay and Susie Lesowitz of Jacksonville, FL, and Gary and Jacqueline Lesowitz of Stamford, CT.  He is survived by his loving and cherished grandchildren Mara Finkel, Jaime Finkel and Mathieu Lesowitz. He is also survived by his devoted and loving sister, Sheila Levinstein and niece and nephew Sue and Mark. Art also leaves behind his dear and long time friends Alvin and Doris Parker.

Dad’s last few years were spent in Stamford CT living with Gary and his daughter in-law Jacquie, and later at an assisted living facility, all with the loving support of his sister and niece, Shelia and Sue. 

The family would also like to thank the caretakers, aides and nurses at Sunrise Brighton Gardens in Stamford CT for their affectionate and compassionate care of Art.
