Mary Farrell

Obituary of Mary Theresa Farrell

Mary Theresa Farrell
Born in Oceanside, New York, the daughter of Maude (Whitbread) and Paul V. Farrell. She is survived by Barbara McTiernan, Paul R. Farrell, Rita Farrell, and Peter Farrell, their spouses, and nine cherished nieces and nephews. In 1994, Mary uprooted herself from Long Island and moved to Stamford. She took to her new home with characteristic energy, becoming involved as a volunteer in community institutions, organizations, and events. An outspoken progressive, she peppered the Advocate regularly on issues from local to global. She aligned with the Green Party, ran for local offices, and pushed for bicycle and pedestrian friendly streets for people of all ages. Since 2003 she worked as receptionist for The Ashforth Company, where she brought unmatched enthusiasm and wit, and, in turn, fostered affection and kindness. A ruthless Scrabble opponent, and a dogged master of crosswords, we send her home with one last puzzle:
1. Where Mary has gone.
2. It comes in iron or a legal folder.
3. Hank's credo " ______ give an inch".
4. Bumble ___.
5. English beverage, with a pronoun.
6. Opposite of 'different'.
The family asks that any donations be made to the Laurel House, www.laurelhouse.net
