Obituary of Sydnor Jean Georgen

Jean Georgen, age 85, of Fairfield, passed away at her home in the care of her loving family, on February 14, 2018. Born April 3, 1932 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John and Effie Panter. She lived with her family in the Lake Hills neighborhood of Fairfield since 1960. She is survived by her five beloved children Michael and Currie Georgen of Bristol, Carol Mayoussier of Southington, Kathleen Georgen of Fort Collins, Colorado, Rosemarie and Miguel Tomasio of Trumbull, and Lawrence and Janet Georgen of Fairfield; her thirteen grandchildren: Forrest, Jessica, Effie, Rebecca, Michael Joseph, Zachary, Chase, Timothy, Priscilla, Thomas, Carly, Carlo, Miranda; six great-grandchildren: Aspen, Kade, Garrett, George, Teddy, Orion; and her sisters: Joelle, Laurel, and Dierdre. Jean is now reunited with her daughter Margaret, six siblings, and Robert T. Georgen with whom she shared forty years of marriage. Jean graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford and then Finch College in NYC. She continued her joy of learning and continued taking classes of interest throughout her life at Sacred Heart University and the Fairfield Senior Center.

While raising her children, Jean worked locally for E.J. Korvettes, People’s Savings Bank and retired from Fairfield University. During her life, Jean volunteered as her sons’ den leader for Cub Scouts and for more than ten years as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters. She had a great passion for scouting, the outdoors and adventure. When the wind was right, Jean enjoyed kite flying and hot air balloon rides. She loved productions at Goodspeed, Shubert, Oakdale, Broadway Theatres, Radio City Music Hall, concerts on the green in Fairfield and the Greater Bridgeport Symphony at the Klein Theatre. She truly cherished her entire family and treasured going to her grandchildren’s concerts, plays, sporting events, award ceremonies, religious celebrations, graduations, and parades. She loved to hike and explore the trails around Fairfield County; The CT Audubon Society, Devil’s Den, and Huntington State Park. She also had adventurous trips climbing Machu Picchu in Peru, the cliffs and countryside of Ireland, the rim of the Grand Canyon and the trails of Estes State Park in Colorado. Jean was a faith-filled parishioner of St. Pius X Church. She had a deep belief in God, and was always ready to help friends, family, and those in need.

Jean lived life the only fathomable way - fearlessly and authentically. There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date in her honor.
