Stanley Hercun

Obituary of Stanley Nicholas Hercun

~~Stanley Nicholas Hercun, born June 12, 1943, was called home to eternal rest on Sunday August 27, 2017.  Throughout his journey on earth he was surrounded by love and light.  Stan had his son, brother, sisters, niece, nephews, grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law sharing their love and memories at his bedside as he was preparing to leave this world and join his loved ones waiting for him above.  As he made his final transition to everlasting life, his son Christopher was holding his hand on earth as his beloved wife Carole, his sons, Nicholas and Jonathan, and his parents, Mary and Nicholas, were waiting to embrace him on other side in the light.

A Veteran of the Air Force, Stanley was stationed in Korea for two of his eight years of service.  A graduate from Norwalk Community College, Stan was retired from Pitney Bowes.  Stan had great interest and knowledge of computers. He created gaming programs for his sons when they were young, and later, his grandchildren.  Stan went on to teach his wife Carole to use computers and he collaborated with her on her three published novels.  Always having an artistic eye, Stan spent time building model airplanes and working with leather, creating beautiful handcrafted pocketbooks, wallets and belts.  Stan was a gifted photographer who focused the camera’s eye on those he loved.  A talented chef, Stan could frequently be found in the kitchen, especially around the holidays, creating his famous babka, pierogi, pumpkin pies and turnips. Having a special love of family, children and the holidays, it was a tradition for Stanley to be Santa Claus at his sister-in-law’s annual Christmas party at her dance studio.  Stan profoundly enjoyed being humorous and hearing his loved ones laugh along with him.  Always a family man, Stan’s green eyes sparkled with joy when he frequently spoke of his children or grandchildren.  Stanley loved deeply; he was passionately in love with his wife, and he had enormous love for all of his family and friends.  Stan, Dad, Uncle Stan, Grandpa, we will hold you in our hearts forever and always love you.

Stanley is survived by his son Christopher Hercun and daughter-in-law Elisa Wilson, his grandchildren Xavier, Adrian, Bailey and Trinity, his brother Richard Sadowski and sister-in-law Joan Sadowski, his three sisters, Helen Gagne, Wanda Sadowski and Sophie Sadowski-Broadley and her husband, Tom Broadley, his sister-in-law, Jeanette and her husband Peter Murzyn, and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Catholic service in Stanley’s honor will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Saint Margaret’s Shrine, 2523 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.  A celebration of Stanley’s life will commence immediately following the service at 11:30 a.m. at the Parish Court Community Room - 175 Warde Terrace, Fairfield, CT.  All family and friends are welcome to attend.  Arrangements under the direction of Nutmeg State Cremations Society.  To send condolences to the family, please visit www.nutmegcremation.com
