Obituary of Richard W. Johnson

Richard W. Johnson, 86 of Westport passed away at Branford Hospice on February 22, 2014. He was born in Hartford, CT on October 21, 1927. He attended Farmington High School and was in the military from 1946-1948 serving in the Air Force Flight Surgeons Department. He attended night school and graduated from The University of Hartford with a BS in Engineering. He worked at Pitney Bowes in Stamford for 25 years. Following that he got his Real Estate Brokers License. He was in real estate for 30 years having his own office the last few years. Richard lived in Stamford for several years and was active in civic affairs. He was president of the Stamford Jaycees, United Way, Cub Scout and Boy Scout master for Troop 11. He also loved to work around his house and yard building a room and deck on his Stamford house and a deck on his Westport house. Richard enjoyed gardening and cooking. Camping was another love and he and his wife, Sandra, spent 2 weeks each year for 20 summers in North Truro on Cape Cod. Richard leaves behind his wife of 34 years Sandra L. Johnson of Westport, daughters Diana Johnson Marcil (Paul) Westerly, RI; Sandra Johnson Hartford, CT; son Darryl Johnson of Windsor Locks, CT; Step-daughter Michele White (Brian Murray) Milford, CT; step-son Robert White(Charles Touzet) New Orleans, LA and six grand-children; Liane and Alisson Boyko; Christopher and Julia Hickey; Shannon and Steve Murray. A Celebration of his life will be held 11:30 AM on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at North Stamford Congregational Church 31 Cascade Road Stamford, CT. Reception will follow at the Community House. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richards's memory can be given to North Stamford Congregational Church or a charity of your choice.
