Obituary of Sally P Carter

Sally Patricia Carter, 81, a resident of Greenwich, CT for over 40 years, died peacefully in the company of family on Monday the 17th of October at Connecticut Hospice. Born Sally Overbury in 1935 in London, England, Sally was a scientist who received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from London University from the hands of the Queen Mother. She married the late Colin Carter in 1959 and they had 4 children. In 1970 the family moved to Puerto Rico and to Connecticut in 1972, where the family stayed. While raising her family, Sally obtained a Masters Degree from New York Medical College in 1982. Sally worked as a scientist in cancer research at Sloan Kettering and in other laboratory/research settings. She played tennis enthusiastically all her life, as a young woman at local tennis clubs in England and on Greenwich town teams as an adult. She loved gardening, birds and singing, and sung in various church choirs and performed in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Taking care of her granddaughters after she retired was a joy. She enjoyed spending time with the community at River House Adult Day Center later in life. She is survived by her four children: Jane Carter of Greenwich, CT, Wendy Carter of Washington, DC, Joanne (Michael) Faucette of Cromwell, CT, and Paul (Jenn) Carter of New Milford, CT; three granddaughters: Lexie Carter, Nicole and Jessica Faucette; two sisters: Janet Parr and Ann Ward; her brother-in-law Derek Carter, as well as many nieces, nephews and their children. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am on Saturday October 22 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 200 Riverside Avenue. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers can be made to River House Adult Day Center -- http://gadcriverhouse.org/wp/how-to-help/annual-gifts/ or The Transportation Association of Greenwich -- http://www.ridetag.org/donate. These nonprofit services were a godsend that improved the quality of Sally’s life for many years until just before her death.
