John (Jack) Thompson
John Thompson, a long time resident of Norwalk, CT passed away on July 26, 2016. He was, for 53 years the husband of Barbara (Cooper) Thompson and was the father of Michael John Thompson and his wife Elisa of Stamford, CT.
John was born Nov. 2, 1932 in Fall River, MA and was the son of the late Elsie(Farrell) and Harold Thompson. He was pre-deceased by brothers Francis, Edward, Kenneth, and William Thompson and sister Nancy Duarte. He is survived by sister June McDonough of Bristol, R.I. and many nieces and nephews.
After serving is the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 – 1954 he earned a BS. degree in Education from Bridgewater (MA) University. He later received a Masters in Ed. and a 6th year certification in educational administration from Fairfield (CT) University.
After a long teaching career in Norwalk and New Canaan (teacher/administrator) he retired in 1995. In retirement John was a collector and dealer in antiques and collectables, selling at shows and for 23 years at the Stratford Antiques Center.
He was a long time active member of the Norwalk Lions club, serving as past president and was awarded the Lions International Melvin Jones Fellow award for humanitarian services.
