Obituary of Lajos (Louie) Kelemen
Lajos “Louie” Kelemen of Redding, Connecticut (and a longtime resident of Bethel, Connecticut) passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on March 21, 2016 at the age of 75.
Louie was born in Budapest, Hungary on August 22, 1940, the son of the late Odon and Julianna Kajari Kelemen. He immigrated to the United States in 1972.
Louie loved cars. He was a respected car mechanic for over fifty years and in his later years enjoyed working for Enterprise Rent-A- Car as a part time driver. He had a strong work ethic and was proud of his Hungarian heritage. He was also an avid traveler. Louie was a kind and generous man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren whom he called his “sunshine.”
He is survived by his loving companion, Elizabeth Begley; his daughters, Tiffany Kelemen and Bea McKirgan and her husband, Paul; his grandchildren: Leah and Carly McKirgan; his former wife, Maria Kelemen; Elizabeth’s daughter, Jennifer Calner, her husband Mark and their children, Colin and Anna; as well as his sister, Eva Jost, of Budapest and several nieces and nephews, also of Budapest.
