Obituary of Gloria Janicek

Jan Janicek passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2016 with family by her side. She was 92 years old. Jan certainly lived life to it’s fullest! She was born in New York, attended Our Lady of Angels High School in Brooklyn and the Nursing School at Kings Park State Hospital. She married Stephen Janicek in 1941 and they moved to California in 1945 where they raised their family in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley. In 1988 they retired to Murrieta, CA. Jan lost her beloved Steve in 2006 having celebrated 64 years of marriage. In 2014, she moved to Darien to be close to her daughter, Pat, and her family. Jan was a warm and generous woman. She worked as a Registered Nurse throughout her adult life in hospitals, doctor’s offices and school nurse offices. She loved travel, and with Steve enjoyed many tours, cruises and adventures throughout the world. Jan was always devoted to her faith; she worked as a volunteer at her home churches in California in their food pantries and book shops. She continued her volunteer service in Darien wrapping presents in the Holiday Toy Store at Person to Person and packing meals at the St. Luke’s Hunger Project. Jan was a dear friend to many, always had an open door to help friends and strangers. She was a wonderful hostess and an avid bridge player. She will be missed by her children Stephen Janicek and Patricia Cage, their spouses, Stefanie and Jeremy, and her four grandchildren, Bradley, Elena Cage, Katie, and Hunter and her many friends and relatives around the country and the world. Services will be held in the chapel at St. Luke’s Parish in Darien on Friday, January 22 at 1pm. Donations can be made to Person to Person in Darien CT.
