Obituary of Harold Rogers
Harold G. (Hal) Rogers passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on March 26th at the age of 93. Hal and his wife, Lois, celebrated their 58th anniversary last fall. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, coach and mentor to all who knew him. Hal and Lois moved to Riverside in 1962 where they became an integral part of the Greenwich community and where he coached hockey and baseball for many years. He served on the Board of Trustees of The Brunswick School where the hockey team award for commitment and dedication is named in his honor. During his 50+ year membership at Innis Arden Golf Club, Hal served for many years on the Board of Directors including two terms as President. He served in the Navy Air Corps in the South Pacific for the US Navy during World War II. Hal played varsity foorball and baseball at Princeton University as part of the Class of 1948. After college he played professional baseball for the Boston Red Sox until a shoulder injury prematurely ended his dream, at which time he went on to pursue a long and successful career as an advertising executive in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Hal was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, shooting, golf and tennis. He was an extraordinary man with a great spirit for life that touched many people of all generations. At Princeton, he earned the nickname "Happy Hal" that fittingly stuck with him for the remainder of his life. Hal was outgoing with a great sense of humor and a larger than life personality that was infectious to all who met him. He greeted everyone with a big smile and was man who was universally admired and respected for his integrity, patriotism, eloquence and his ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important person in the conversation. Hal is survived by his wife, Lois. His son Gary and his wife Linda of Madison, CT and Linda's daughter, Nicole Smith. His son Bruce and wife, Mary, of Darien, CT and their two children, Evan and Celia and three sons of eldest son, David, who passed away in 2003, Arron Marlowe-Rogers, Jared Rogers and Damion Marlowe-Rogers and their families of Winston Salem, NC.
