Obituary of Marjorie Foster
Marjorie Stowell Foster, 67, adored grandmother and accomplished chef Surrounded by family members, Marjorie Stowell Foster, 67, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Norwalk Hospital after a battle with lymphoma. Born February 4, 1947, in Greenwich, Conn., Marge, as all knew her, was the first of three daughters of the late Adelaide McClary Stowell and Eldon Stowell of Greenwich. Marge was an accomplished chef and owner of Marge Foster Catering, a lover of theater who was active with The Town Players of New Canaan, and a doting grandma. When not with her grandsons, she was happiest spending time every year in Watch Hill, RI, Key West, Fla., and Eastham, Mass., with her dearest friends and family members. She is remembered as an angelically kind and generous soul who arrived to every gathering with arms full of homemade food. Marge graduated from Rosemary Hall in 1965. Her spirit of adventure led her to forego college to travel the world as a cruise ship waitress in her youth. She returned to Old Greenwich to raise her family and pursue a culinary career that included styling food for Pleasures of Cooking magazine at Cuisinart, owning As You Like It catering in Greenwich, and operating the Catering Company for L'Abbee in New Canaan. For the past 20 years, her business Marge Foster Catering provided delicacies for countless parties and events in Fairfield County. She was also beloved at St. John Fisher Seminary in Stamford, where she prepared the seminarians' meals for most of the past decade. Marge is survived by three children and two grandchildren: daughter Carly Foster of Norwalk, Conn.; son Timothy Foster, his wife Jessica Heard Foster, and their sons Matthew McClary and Andrew Thomas of Timonium, Md.; and son Jeff Foster and his companion Adrienne Burke of Easton, Conn. She is also survived by sisters Carolyn Stowell of Livingston Manor, NY, and Barbara Stowell Yenco and her husband Steven Yenco of Madison, Conn.; nephew Steven Yenco, his wife Laura Scholl Yenco, and their daughter Madelyn Ann of North Coventry, Conn.; niece Abby Yenco Piersall and her husband Brian Piersall of Marshfield, Mass.; and nephew Christopher Yenco and his companion Tonya Mammone of Madison, Conn. Marge's former husband David Foster, a lifelong friend, was at her side in her final hours. A small memorial brunch for family and friends will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Marge Foster to the Connecticut Food Bank. Arrangements are under the care of the Nutmeg State Cremation Society, Stamford.
