Obituary of Joseph J. Balkun
Joseph John Balkun Joe was born November 5, 1930 to the late Vincent and Alice Balkun. A native Stamford resident, Joe graduated from Stamford High School in 1949 and attended Saint Basil's Prep in 1950. Joe served in the 5th Army of Engineers from 1952-1954. During that time he attended Engineering School at Ft. Belvor Virginia and was stationed in St. Nazare France. After returning to Stamford, he was employed by Helco (Northeast Utilities) from 1955 until 1992, when he retired with a perfect attendance record. Joe was President of Sarma (1972-1975); The Hiline Club (1985); and the North Stamford Lion's Club (1981 & 1982). He was active in many company activities and sports including baseball, basketball and bowling. Joe was an ardent fan of the NY Yankees and enjoyed all professional sports. Joe was a loving husband to his wife of 60 years, Helen Yeruc Balkun, devoted father to his sons, Joseph, Neal and Scott Balkun and a proud grandfather to Katlyn McDonnell; T.J. Kelly, Matthew and Brian Balkun. He was fond of his daughter-in-law Mary (wife of Neal) and Kim (fiancé of Scott). He will be in each of our thoughts and missed greatly each day of our lives.
