Coping With The Death Of A Sibling

Siblings have a unique synergy. They are deeply attached but don't always have the most harmonious bond. That's why the death of a sibling can cause intense grief and lead to some unresolved issues as well. At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we always encourage people who have lost their sibling to take the time to grieve. Here are some tips that can help:

1. Don’t Disregard Your Grief

Siblings are often considered to be forgotten mourners because they are often forced to shrug off their grief to support other members of the family. That's especially true if the siblings didn't share the most affectionate relationship. It is important to remember that your grief and loss is real.

2. Share With Your Family

Your family will understand you and support your loss if you share it with them. Participate in the family's grieving process by sharing memories, speaking about your relationship, and gaining comfort from your loved ones.

3. Find Support Outside Your Family

Being a part of the family that’s facing loss can be challenging, which is why it is a good idea to find support outside your circle. Reach out to your friends and spend some time away from home. This will allow you to work through your grief without feeling like you’re burdening someone else.

4. Forgive Yourself

Sibling relationships can be contentious, but that doesn't mean you should beat yourself up over every word and argument. Forgive yourself and focus on all the happy memories you shared with your sibling. Find ways to remember them and keep them in your life. For example, if your sibling was a huge comic book fan, watch movies of their favorite character as a way to connect with them.

At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we provide comprehensive funeral services and can help you with all aspects of the process, so if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
