Remembering the Departed At Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a time that we spend with family and friends. Can this time of year be complete without remembering a loved one who is no longer with us? Someone you love may have passed away recently or long ago, but the memories are always fresh and flood your thoughts during this season.
Try These Things
You can channel these memories in a variety of different ways. Here are a few ways to remember the departed soul at Thanksgiving:
1. Beautifying The Gravesite: The gravesite is the final resting place of the departed. It is immensely satisfying to keep it shipshape and decorate it during Thanksgiving. When you lay a memorial wreath at the grave, you are expressing your love and emotions and silently communicating the special place the loved one has in your heart.
2. Quilt Your Memories: You may have a large collection of photographs of your loved one. Get these photographs printed on cloth and turn them into a quilt. A quilt is something that can be used very regularly. You can use it either as a blanket, a bedspread or wall hanging. It will be like a story in print, of your loved one’s life and your association with them, and is a lovely way to bring to life many long-forgotten memories.
3. Run Or Walk for a Cause: The days leading up to Thanksgiving are often used to organize runs or walks in the neighborhood, to support a cause. If your loved one supported such activities, you can do the same in their memory. It is an opportunity to meet people in your community who knew him or her and exchange memories about the person. You can also provide financial support for these community events if that’s an option.
