1. There’s a Difference Between a Wake and a Visitation

Both visitation and a wake occur before the funeral service, which can be a traditional burial or a cremation. Both wake and visitations allow friends, family members, and acquaintances some time to say goodbye to their deceased loved one. The wake is conducted in the presence of the body while the visitation doesn’t require one. It’s entirely possible for loved ones to hold a visitation even if they choose cremation.

2. The Body can be Embalmed

It’s also a common misconception that a body can’t be embalmed before cremation. People believe that the embalming fluids might interfere with the cremation process but that’s not true. The funeral director can embalm the deceased person and make arrangements for a wake before cremation.

3. Visitation with an Urn

You can always hold a visitation after the cremation process is completed. The ashes of the deceased individuals can be stored in an urn during the visitation, which can replace the physical body of the deceased individual.

If you can make arrangements quickly, the visitation can be completed before the cremation.
