Honoring and Coping with the Loss of a Loved One

It’s never easy to deal with the loss of a loved one, even if you see it coming and prepare yourself for it. The absence leaves a hole in your life and that emptiness can linger for a long time. At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we understand that different people have different ways to deal with grief and loss. We offer the suggestions mentioned below to help you cope:

1. Don’t Trivialize the Pain

Guests, friends, and even family members might say that you need to move on or pick your life up. They might point towards your dependants like your children or your elderly parents and ask you to be strong for them. While it’s important to offer support to your loved ones in this time of grief, it’s also important to deal with your own pain. Don’t ignore or try to avoid your grief, but push through it in a healthy manner and at your own pace.

2. Don’t Neglect Yourself

Grief can make you blind to the needs of your body and mind. People often forget to eat, sleep, or even move out of the house to take a walk. That can have a serious impact on your health and stall your recovery. Set reminders for yourself and be sure to eat and sleep on time. Take time to walk in neighborhood parks, listen to music, and engage in social interaction.

3. Remember the Good Memories

The safest and healthiest way to recover from grief is to focus on good memories with your loved ones. For example, you can watch movies you had enjoyed with your loved ones or listen to music of concerts you attended. This will allow you to focus on the good aspect of your relationship with the deceased instead of their absence.

At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we provide comprehensive cremation services and can help you with all aspects of the process so if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
