Easy Ways to Personalize a Funeral Service on a Budget

A funeral service is the last opportunity for family members, friends, and guests to stay goodbye to a deceased loved one. It’s a private, personal, and solemn affair, which can prove to be a financial burden as well. At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we believe that funeral services can be personal and affordable at the same with the right planning. Here are some suggestions that can help:

1. Write a Personal Obituary

A personal and creative obituary can add something unique to the funeral service and it can be done free of cost. Instead of sticking with a dry and boring textbook obituary, write something that connects with the family, friends, and other guests and represents the deceased individual. That will add some intimacy and a personal touch to the funeral service.

2. Place Personal Items Around the Casket

While flowers and other such decorative items look pretty, they don’t always add a personal touch to the funeral service. Place cherished and well-loved items of the deceased individuals around the casket. For example, if your loved one cherished music, place records of their favorite musicians by the casket.

3. Use Scent to Evoke Good Memories

Scent can easily bring back memories and make the funeral service more personal. You can burn candles or spray perfume at the funeral location to personalize the event. For example, if the deceased individual loved baking cookies, you can burn a cookie-dough scented candle at the funeral location to personalize the event.

4. Use Unconventional Reading Materials

While Bible verses can offer a great deal of comfort, poetry, lines from novels, and stories can evoke a stronger reaction and offer greater comfort.

At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we provide comprehensive cremation services and can help you with all aspects of the process so if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
