Does a Funeral Service Have to be Held in a Funeral Home or Church?

There are two different events following a person's death: viewings and funerals. The body is presented before burial, and people are invited to say their goodbyes. Guests get the opportunity to meet the decedent's family an hour before the service.

In some cultures, a typical funeral reception lasts four hours and is customarily held the day before the funeral. Close family members can attend a brief service during the final hour of the viewing. Additional information is available from the Nutmeg State Cremation Society.

There is no Requirement for Church Service

It is not essential to have the funeral ceremony in a church. It would help if you ascertained your beloved one's religious affiliation. If not, examine whether or not it is something they would like. Many individuals perform the funeral ceremony at a funeral home chapel. If the deceased has chosen cremation, the family may decide to forego a traditional service.

The family may opt for a celebration of life or memorial service as an alternative. Bear in mind that not all locations or facilities will accept the presence of a casket, and the gathering at the funeral home will be far more intimate and meaningful. If you choose not to have a church funeral, you will need to find a location for the service. Once again, it is critical to consider the deceased's interests.
