Are All Caskets The Same Size?
A standard-sized casket will typically work well if you need a casket for a departed dear one. However, if the person is larger, you may need to get an oversized casket. When a person is being cremated, you will not need an elaborate casket and can opt for a simple one, as there is no burial.
Different Casket Sizes
The different casket sizes to choose from include:
1. Standard Casket Size
These caskets are generally 84” in length x 28” width x 23” height. These dimensions are typically identical in metal and wood caskets. Standard-size caskets fit inside standard burial plots (normally 30” width). Casket interior dimensions will differ a bit. The metal caskets are generally 78/79” long and 23/24” wide on the inner side.
For most adults, standard size caskets are sufficient and can usually easily accommodate an individual of up 350 pounds and 6’5” height. However, it’s best that check with your funeral director, as they are experienced and will tell you which casket will work best for your needs.
2. Oversized Casket Size
If you need a casket for a much larger person or need more space in the casket’s interior, you can select an oversized casket. Although the length of these pieces is the same as standard-size ones, the interior space is wider. Smaller oversize caskets can have an exterior width of 27” with the interiors a little smaller than that. You can also choose from 28”, 29”, 33”, 40”, and 44” oversize caskets. The interior will be an inch smaller than their exterior in all sizes.
