Grief is a natural response to the death of a loved one. You feel lost, shaken, angry, and sad after someone passes away, especially if that someone was a close friend or family member. At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we have seen just how devastating and hurtful grief can be. It always feels worse during the holiday, when people come together and celebrate with loved ones. Here are some tips on how to manage the pain during a festive season:

1. Understand Your Emotions

There's no right or wrong way to react to such a personal loss. Some people cry or rage while others feel numb. You may experience a wide range of emotions during the holidays and react in unexpected ways. Don't feel guilty if you find some enjoyment in the festivities and don't attend parties out of a sense of obligation. It is important to accept the emotions and give yourself some room to recover.

2. Create A New Ritual

A new ritual can help you honor a loved one's memory and still move on. Make a special dish or light a candle in their name. You can also create a unique playlist with all of their favorite holiday music. The music can offer comfort and ensure you feel the loved one's presence during the festivities.

3. Volunteer

Volunteer with local charity organizations during the holidays. They are always in need of staff and will welcome your contributions. You can do some good in honor of a loved one's memory and won't need to deal with the festivities. Volunteering for a charity can be a very fulfilling activity

At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we provide comprehensive cremation services and can help you with all aspects of the process so if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
