Funerals are a way for family members and friends to say their final goodbyes. These customs have existed for thousands of years and have changed considerably over time. Today, most families choose to conduct a personal and intimate ceremony that fits their deceased loved one’s personality perfectly. At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we believe that music is the best way to personalize a funeral.

How to Personalize a Funeral with Unique Song Selections?

Choosing the right music for funeral services can seem like a daunting task but it isn't that difficult. Here are some tips that can help you with the process:

  • Deceased’s Favorite – Think about what kind of music your loved one liked. Were they a fan of classical? Did they love Broadway? Was Hip Hop their jam? The deceased individual’s favorite music is the best starting point for this process.

  • Consider the Lyrics – Modern funerals aren’t as formal as they were in the past but that doesn’t mean you can choose a song without proper consideration. Look at the lyrics carefully to ensure they aren’t painful or offensive. Ensure they don’t have any inappropriate words and don’t describe explicit acts. Keep the music tame and soothing for the funeral.

  • Set the Right Atmosphere – Think about what kind of atmosphere you want to set during the funeral service. Some songs are sad but have an underlying message of hope. Some songs are focused on memories and loss without conveying any sort of positive emotion. Make sure you set the right tone with your music choice to avoid distressing people.

  • Stick with Instrumental – When in doubt, choose instrumental. These songs provide a good environment but also fade into the background so you don’t need to worry about offending any guest.

At Nutmeg State Cremation Society, we provide comprehensive funeral services and can help you with all aspects of the process so if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
